Automated Defibrillation Training

If someone is in cardiac arrest (having a heart attack), their chances of survival may depend on someone being able to use a Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

First With Iain offers two courses in the use of a defibrillator, and that knowledge could save countless lives. Defibrillators are being placed across Devon and Cornwall in communities, even in old phoneboxes, so it is essential that people from all walks of life know how and when to use one.

Automated External Defibrillation (AED) is well established as the only effective therapy for cardiac arrest. The scientific evidence to support early defibrillation is overwhelming, with the single most determinant of survival being the delay from collapse to delivery of the first shock. With every minutes that passes, the chances of defibrillation being successful drops by up to 10%.

Defibrillation training

We offer a comprehensive Automated External Defibrillation (AED) program based on the necessary theory, backed up with lots of practical sessions. The course is run over half a day, and is made as informative and enjoyable as possible. Our approach allows students to gain confidence in what is a new and possibly somewhat daunting skill.

Many businesses are now investing in their own AED units to keep onsite, so the knowledge and skill to use them becomes even more important. In addition to training we are able to offer advice in areas such as company protocols, purchasing equipment and on-going help and support with training and development.

Difibulator or defibrillator?

Technically speaking, a defibrillator, but it is often spelled as difibulator by people searching for information. Our training focuses on the use of an Automated External Defibrillator, a lightweight, portable unit used to restore the heart's natural rhythm after a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).
